Treks in Uttarakhand

उत्तराखंड ·88 records across 10 districts

Uttarakhand carries the densest trekking record in the Indian Himalaya, and the most contested one. Much of it sits inside protected areas — Govind Pashu Vihar, Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, Nanda Devi — so a route's legal status can change without the route itself changing at all.

The state also holds the clearest split in our whole database between what gets commercially operated and what doesn't. A handful of routes around Sankri and Chamoli account for most operator listings; the shepherd trails and connecting passes between them are documented, if at all, only by Survey of India sheets and the occasional Himalayan Journal account.

Permits here are state-administered but enforced per protected area, so the same trek can require one permit at a range office and another at a forest gate. Where our sources disagree on a fee or a requirement, both are shown on the trek record rather than silently resolved.

Mostly shepherd routes and connecting passes nobody sells. If you have walked one, you are probably the best source that exists.
