Last updated 2026-08-19

This page covers the one place on Trekkers that asks you for anything personal: the contribute form, where you can correct a field, report something wrong, or add a trek we don't have yet. Everything else on the site — browsing, searching, reading a record — asks for nothing and collects nothing.

What we collect

The content of your submission itself: the field you're correcting, what you think it should say, when you observed it, and how you know. None of that is personal data.

Optionally, and only if you choose to give them: your name and email, under "Attribution." Neither is required to submit. Your name, if given, may be shown on the record as the source of a correction. Your email is never published — it exists only so a reviewer can follow up if your submission is ambiguous.

We do not collect your IP address, device information, or any analytics on this form. We do not use cookies to track you across the site.

Why we collect it, and what we don't do with it

Purpose limitation: whatever you give us is used only for the reason you gave it — reviewing and, if accepted, crediting your submission. It is never reused for marketing, never sold, and never shared with a third party. If we ever wanted to use contributor data differently, we'd ask again, not repurpose consent already given for something else.

How long we keep it

Submissions are retained for up to 2 years from the date you send them, tracked per-submission in our database. This is a starting point, not a promise we'll never shorten it — a fully automated deletion process for the retention window above is planned but not live yet; until it is, you can ask us to delete your submission's attribution details early (see below).

Your rights

You can ask, at any time, what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the contact below with enough detail to find your submission (the trek name and roughly when you submitted it is usually enough) and we'll act on it.

Grievance contact

We haven't named a dedicated grievance officer yet — Trekkers isn't live in production at the time of writing this page. Until one is named here, direct any privacy question, correction request, or complaint to privacy@ghumakkadindian.com.

Licensing

The content of a submission — the correction, the description, the evidence you cite — is contributed under CC BY-SA and may be published on the record, same as any other source. This licence covers the content only, never your name or email beyond the attribution use described above.
